Since most of the bees froze this winter, local honey has been scare or not existent. We excited to share we found another supplier who has A LOT of honey. So if you are looking for a little honey or a lot of honey – stop in. It’s available in the honey bear, 2, 3 or 5 pound. We think you’ll like the sweet low price.

Back to School

It’s that time of year again where emotions vary. Some are excited (parents & students?); some are not (students?). Looking for some munches for lunches or after school snacks? For the next few weeks, watch for our “Back to School Deals” throughout the store. This week, buy 3 packages of shelf stable cheese, get 1 FREE. Try either smoked cheddar or green onion. They don’t need to be refrigerated until open, but since both of them are so delicious, you won’t need to worry about putting them back in the frig – they will disappear quickly.

Local Specialty Shops Celebration – Friday, 8/15

This Friday, the local specialty shops are joining together to celebrate the Grand Opening of The Spotted Owl (formerly The Antique Shoppe) in Fairbury. From 10-7, the Spotted Owl will be serving free food and showing off their new items. Join the fun! Apples

The deadline to order apples is Friday, August 15th. They will be delivered Saturday, September 27th. Choose from either Cortland or Jonathan. Bushels are $18-$20.

 

Little Scoops of News

The autumn items, such as these maple leaf creme cookies are ‘falling’ into the store. We’ll keep you posted as they arrive.

 Frosted Black Raspberry Cake – 20 servings   

1 package yellow cake mix
1 box sugar-free instant vanilla pudding mix*
1 package black raspberry gelatin*
3 eggs*
1 jar (9 ounces) black raspberry jam *
1/2 cup applesauce
1/4 cup canola oil

ICING:

1/4 cup butter, softened*
3 cups confectioners’ sugar*
3 tablespoons fat-free milk

  • In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, pudding mix and gelatin. In a small bowl, beat the eggs, jam, applesauce and oil. Stir into dry ingredients just until moistened. Pour into a 15-in. x 10-in. x 1-in. baking pan coated with cooking spray. Bake at 350° for 30-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool on a wire rack. In a small bowl, combine icing ingredients until smooth. Spread over cooled cake. Yield: 20 servings.
